Visando combater o racismo na plataforma, Grindr anuncia que irá remover filtro de etnias

O Grindr anunciou nesta segunda-feira (01/06) que finalmente irá retirar os filtros étnicos das configurações de busca do aplicativo. Na próxima atualização, a plataforma, que há muito tempo vem sendo criticado pela função, não terá mais a opção de filtrar possíveis interesses pela etnia.

A decisão foi tomada em solidariedade aos protestos que ocorrem nos Estados Unidos em resposta ao assassinato de George Floyd, homem negro morto asfixiado após um policial branco pressionar o joelho em seu pescoço, em Minneapolis. O filtro de etnia permitia que usuários indicassem que tipo de perfil mais os interessava. Mesmo após campanhas contra o racismo, em 2018, Landen Zumwalt afirmou ao jornal britânico ‘The Guardian’, que ainda não estavam prontos para retirar a função e que o filtro poderia ajudar as minorias a se conectarem entre si.

“Nós nos posicionamos em solidariedade ao movimento #BlackLivesMatter e às centenas de milhares de pessoas queer e negras que logam em nosso aplicativo todos os dias. Nós não ficaremos em silêncio nem seremos inativos”, diz o anúncio feito no Twitter do Grindr. Apesar da remoção do filtro, os usuários ainda podem encontrar preferências em perfis. Já que o Grindr trabalha com um algoritmo que tende a personalizar o feed de acordo com as escolhas de interação anteriores no app.

Yes, we can still come together in the spirit of Pride, but Pride this year has an added responsibility, a shifted tone, and a new priority that will be reflected in our programming—support and solidarity for queer people of color and the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
